Growing up, I loved sweets and I still do. When I was little, my Mom used to take me to the bakery that made her wedding cake. I would get the mini cakes and eat like 5 of them on the spot. They were so damn good. I loved watching cooking shows when I was little. I marveled at the fact that flour, butter, sugar, etc. could transform into something so tasty and sweet.
In spite of my appreciation for food, I live in a busy city and I’m always on the go… so I usually order out. Then the pandemic hit. OMG I was so paranoid to eat out now. I would hear stories of restaurants closing down because of a COVID breakout amongst the staff. UGH. I couldn’t survive off of sandwiches and microwavable food for the rest of my life so I pulled up Pinterest and Youtube to learn how to bake.
The first thing I ever baked was based off a recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction via Pinterest. All I saw was “Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies” and I was SOLD. I loved how she not only included the recipe but also a video of her explaining why she used the ingredients she did. She also shared tips and tricks that she learned along the way as she baked her favorite dishes.
Okay so the first step…I bought all of the ingredients after reading and rereading the recipe over and over again. I also kept rewatching the video she posted. Next, I followed the recipe step by step. To make sure that I stuck to everything, I shared the steps on my Instagram story. I loved the feedback I was getting from my friends and it motivated me. I was a little impatient when I got to the part where I had to “chill the cookie dough for 2 -3 hours” but this is what happens when you bake from scratch. I definetely picked the 2 hours option though.

Okay I’m not trying to toot my own horn but TOOT TOOT. My cookie dough looked amazing and it was time to mold it into the cookies I wanted them to be. That sounded super dramatic but you get the idea. I rolled the cookie dough into balls like Sally told me to do and put them in the oven. I was so nervous! Did I miss a step? Did I measure incorrectly? I know that when it comes to baking the ingredients and measurements needed to be perfect.
Then I started to smell the chocolate melting. My God it smelled AMAZING. My timer went off and I immediately ran to open up my stove. The cookies looked PERFECT. I didn’t even wait to cool them off. I carefully grabbed one and after blowing it around in my mouth because it was so damn hot, the cookies turned out WONDERFUL. I shared them with my family and they asked for more. I'm a baker now! *Soulja Boy Voice*

Well… if I could make cookies, I could for sure make other things right? I was putting everything I was baking on social media and was getting bomb ass feedback. I was so happy that I finally learned how to bake and was so excited to bake for my family and hear their reactions. Take a look at what I baked below:
